PENNSYLVANIA TUNRPIKE COMMISION: FIBER OPTIC INSTALLATION
Our team at Thoroughbred Construction Group is proud to be installing a 163-mile, state-of-the-art fiber optic system along the Pennsylvania Turnpike, connecting Harrisburg to Pittsburgh. The project includes laying future path, jetting high-quality fiber optic cables both underground and aerially, and splicing cables to ensure seamless connectivity.
These efforts link the fiber to numerous demarcation sites along the route, providing the turnpike with faster, more reliable communications for operations and future upgrades. Coordinating underground and aerial installations allows for maximum flexibility and efficiency, overcoming the unique challenges of both trench and above-ground work.
This project strengthens critical infrastructure, supporting traffic management, operational communications, and future technological improvements. It’s a high-level, expert installation that ensures the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commision is prepared for decades of safe and efficient operation.
AWARD-WINNING WORK
PITTSBURGH SISTER BRIDGES: DECORATIVE LIGHTING
Thoroughbred Construction Group was proud to contribute to the award-winning decorative lighting project on Pittsburgh’s iconic Three Sisters Bridges. The Roberto Clemente, Andy Warhol, and Rachel Carson bridges are among the city’s most recognizable landmarks, known for their historic design, riverfront presence, and connection between Downtown Pittsburgh and the North Shore.
The project introduced a programmable lighting system that highlights the unique architecture of each bridge after dark. With dynamic displays for holidays, sporting events, and city celebrations, the lighting brings new visibility, color, and energy to these historic structures while enhancing the overall Downtown skyline.
This work helped transform the bridges into a vibrant nighttime landmark for residents, visitors, and commuters alike. It celebrates the history of the bridges while adding a modern feature that reflects Pittsburgh’s continued growth, creativity, and pride in its public spaces.
